Students who aspire to get admission to IITs for undergraduate engineering courses appear for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). JEE is conducted in two phases: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Candidates who qualified in JEE Main can attempt the next phase of the exam, i.e., JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is the second phase of India’s most challenging engineering entrance examination – the IIT JEE. A fact about this entrance examination is JEE Main, formerly AIEEE, is an Indian standardised computer-based test for getting admissions to various technical undergraduate courses in engineering, architecture and planning courses across top institutes in India. Similarly, JEE Advanced, formerly IIT-JEE (Indian Institutes of Technology – Joint Entrance Examination), is a yearly entrance examination in India.

Seven IITs generally conduct JEE Advanced on a rotational basis. In 2023, IIT Guwahati is set to be the exam conducting authority for JEE Advanced. Thus, IIT Guwahati is responsible for declaring the JEE Advanced 2023 exam date and developing the question paper. Similarly, IIT Madras is the exam conducting body for the next year’s JEE Advanced. Since JEE is a highly competitive exam in India, the difficulty level of the question paper will also be high. Also, candidates who will be in the top 2,50,000 list in the JEE Main result will be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced.

Apart from the JEE Main rank, candidates must have the other eligibility criteria for taking the JEE Advanced.

These are as follows:

Candidate’s age should be less than 25 years, with 5-year relaxation for SC, ST and PwD candidates.

Candidates can appear for the examination two times in two consecutive years maximum.

Candidates must have passed the Class XII Board Examination or equivalent exam in the same or the previous academic year. For instance, to appear in JEE-2023, students must have passed the Class XII board or equivalent exam in 2023 or 2022.

Candidates should not have accepted a seat in any of the IITs earlier.

Candidates should score 75% in the Class 12 board exam or must be in the top 20th percentile of their class. However, foreign candidates are exempted from the JEE Main requirement.

Only eligible candidates can fill out the application form for JEE Advanced successfully. Also, it is to be noted that the registration schedule will be decided by the exam conducting authority. That means IIT Guwahati is responsible for announcing the JEE Advanced 2023 registration dates and related procedures. Once the online application is made available on the official website, all candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced can fill out and submit their applications. Once the registration phase is over, candidates can check for the admit card details and exam date.

All the details about filling out the application form, application fee, examination pattern, syllabus, etc., will be available in the information bulletin released by the exam conducting body on the JEE Advanced official website. Candidates should check the information bulletin of JEE Advanced to get a clear idea about the examination. Also, you can read the list of the frequently asked questions and responses about the examination procedure.
