Psychotechnical tests are used for the selection of candidates for certain posts and for certain competitions. It is true that faced with these little signs, numbers or letters scattered around in boxes, you risk being confused if during the test you meet them for the first time. The main thing is to be well prepared.

Here are some tips for passing psychotechnical tests .

The goal is to test yourself to compare yourself to a standard profile or to other candidates. Psychotechnical tests are used to assess the following aptitudes of candidates:

ability to learn (a test paper increases in difficulty with the questions, so you can prove your ability to progress and learn);

Numerical and verbal reasoning.

Important  : knowing the different tests well, along with effective training, considerably increases your chances of succes

Logic tests  : these can be sequences to be solved (logical square, series of numbers or letters, codes, intruders), spatial intelligence tests (cubes, folds) or deductive logic tests (positions, family ties).

Mechanical tests  : by appealing to your physical and practical sense more than to knowledge, you answer, for example, a question on the effects of a situation described by a diagram (electricity, mechanics, energy, forces). You have to get used to this type of reasoning.

Mathematical tests : you solve mathematical  operations or problems.

Verbal tests  : you show your ability to manipulate and use words (spelling, intruders, understanding proverbs).

Prepare in advance to pass your psychotechnical tests

It is necessary to prepare yourself well in advance before reaching the big day, to increase your results and especially your resolution speed.

Learn about the tests you are going to take

Find out about the tests you are going to take before embarking on overly heavy revisions.

Tip  : If you are looking for a job or preparing for a competition, find out about the selection methods. Check that tests are part of the selection methods (they are very often, especially in large companies). If possible, ask them what type of tests are used.

Examples of test sites on the internet (the first two sites are very complete):

Establish a customized training program

Make yourself a program lasting at least a month and a half, the best being to devote a semester to it:

Psychotechnical tests use the following subjects: calculation, arithmetic, mathematics, grammar, spelling.

Good to know  : the tests, when they involve mathematics or spelling, do not assess your knowledge in these subjects but rather your ability to use them on a daily basis (manipulation of knowledge). Also, there is no need to revise or learn all of the math and French programs.

However, review to know the rules of arithmetic and basic French. Some sites give you reminders:

Tip  : in French, in addition to reminders, remember to collect tips and tricks for writing flawlessly.

Prepare for all types of tests

Know that each type of test has a certain logic in its different forms. Also, if you have practiced the different tests, you will identify the type of reasoning expected and you will save time by reducing the analysis time.

Practice applying many assumptions as quickly as possible

Always look for the simplest logical answer possible: trust your instincts and your first glance. The general look of the drawing, for example, can give you the logical answer without having to look any further.

Change your strategy if nothing emerges: compare the drawings and identify logics or common points: use of straight lines, curves, dotted lines, open or closed surfaces, number of points, lines or objects … Also study the layout elements relative to each other, the orientation of shapes and colors (in which case do they change?). Test all the logics, be exhaustive but stop a logic at the first sign of error.

Once the rule is found, the solution must be the only one possible. If more than one solution is possible, you are wrong.

Example of the intruder test  : it consists in locating an intruder within a list of figures, diagrams, words, figures. One common point (or more) applies to all the elements of the exercise, except one, the intruder. Tip: the common point between all the elements can take several aspects. Do not get locked into a perception, test several hypotheses, quickly.

The meaning: drums – triangle – violin – drum: all words are musical instruments, only the violin is a string instrument.

The number of vowels: ane-no-fou-summer: all these words have three letters and all are common names but only “no” has only one vowel.

Apply some tips to pass your psychotechnical tests

If you see that letter sequences are presented, write down the alphabet, this will save you from reciting it to yourself and counting on your fingers. Do the same for other sequences like those of prime numbers or squares for example.

Take the time to fully understand the solution proposed in these examples and find the logical approach. It happens that in each question the first part is a solved example, then you can apply the same logic to the second part.
